Lansing City Council to Hold Brownfield Hearing

The Lansing City Council is scheduled to hold a public hearing tonight on a Brownfield plan for a redevelopment project in the 400 block of Cedar Street in Lansing’s Stadium District.

The project calls for the rehabilitation of a two-story commercial building described as functionally obsolete. The redevelopment would receive more than $870,000 in Brownfield funding and represents a total capital investment of more than $3.8 million.

Road Work Underway in Charlotte

Drivers in Charlotte should expect lane restrictions beginning today as two resurfacing projects get underway.

Single-lane closures are scheduled for Cochran Avenue between the I-69 Business Route and Beech Highway, as well as on M-79 between Bostwick and Gale Streets.

The projects are expected to continue through early November.

Lansing Plant Employees Facing Layoffs

Up to 67 plant employees in Lansing are being laid off by Dakkota Integrated Systems.

The company, which supplies interior cockpit systems for the GM Grand River plant, says the temporary job losses will take effect December 31.

The layoffs follow the closure of Dakkota’s Lansing 2 plant on Grove Road.

Ricin Confirmed at Hastings Locations

Barry-Eaton County Health Department officials have confirmed the presence of ricin following a potential exposure incident involving an apartment complex and the emergency department at Corewell Health Pennock Hospital in Hastings.

Health officials have issued emergency orders restricting access to the affected apartment complex while environmental sampling, risk assessment and potential remediation efforts are conducted.

Ricin is a potentially deadly poison, and officials are continuing to assess the situation.

Michigan Gas Prices Rise

AAA Michigan is reporting a statewide average gasoline price of $4.31 per gallon to begin the new week.

That represents an increase of 28 cents compared with the same time last week.

In the Lansing area, the average price rose 38 cents over the past week to $4.34 per gallon.

Fireball Meteor Spotted Over Michigan

A fireball meteor was spotted across Michigan Sunday night.

Michigan storm watchers and other weather-monitoring sites reported that the meteor appeared to fall and break apart somewhere over Lake Huron or Ontario.

The assessment is based on camera footage recorded from a landscape in Cheboygan facing east-northeast.

The meteor sighting adds a striking nighttime event to a busy start to the new week across Mid-Michigan.
