Lansing Police Standoff Follows Neighbor Dispute

Lansing police have released additional information about a standoff early Wednesday morning at a home on Shepherd Street between Kalamazoo Street and I-496.

Police say the standoff stemmed from shots fired at the home during a dispute between neighbors. Officers took a 45-year-old man into custody. His name had not been released as of Wednesday morning.

Eaton County Receives $2.5 Million for Flood Relief Project

Eaton County has received $2.5 million in state grants to help reduce the cost of a major intercounty drain project designed to address chronic flooding near the Eaton-Ingham County line.

The project is expected to cost approximately $60 million overall. The grant funding will reduce assessment costs for property owners and other entities that had already been assessed more than $12,000 toward the project.

Refund checks are expected to be issued before the end of the year.

Lansing-Area Gas Prices Near $5 Per Gallon

Gas prices surged Wednesday, with prices reaching approximately $4.99 per gallon at many stations across the Lansing area and elsewhere in Michigan.

The increase puts prices within about a quarter of a dollar of AAA Michigan's record high of $5.22 per gallon, set in June 2022 during the early stages of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Three Ingham County Intersections Listed Among Most Dangerous

A study by Michigan Auto Law identifies three intersections in Ingham County as among the area's most dangerous.

The intersections listed are:

• Saginaw Street and North Homer Street
• Grand River Avenue and North Howard Street
• Saginaw Street and Frandor Avenue East

The first intersection on the list is near the Frandor Shopping Center and U.S. 127.

Kalamazoo Street Construction Begins

Lansing commuters should also prepare for road construction on Kalamazoo Street.

Work is scheduled to begin Thursday on Kalamazoo Street between Pennsylvania Avenue and Mifflin Street. The project is expected to continue through November 20.

East Lansing Parking Changes Coming

Parking availability in East Lansing is expected to decrease soon.

The city says the western portion of the Bailey Street parking lot will close October 2 after the property's owners terminate their contract with the city.

The city-owned portion of the parking lot will remain open, but the number of available spaces will be significantly reduced.

Charlotte Post Office Closer to Being Named for Pearl Harbor Hero

The U.S. House has unanimously approved legislation to rename the post office in Charlotte after a Medal of Honor recipient.

The legislation, sponsored by 7th District Congressman Tom Barrett, would designate the facility as the Francis C. Flaherty Post Office Building.

Flaherty, a U.S. Navy ensign, was recognized for his actions during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Barrett said the naming is a tribute to Flaherty's bravery, devotion to duty and sacrifice.
