Woman Charged in Lansing Stabbing

Lansing police say a 51-year-old woman has been charged with felonious assault following a stabbing Wednesday night in the 3000 block of South Washington Avenue.

Police say the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute. A man suffered a stab wound to the shoulder but is expected to recover from non-life-threatening injuries.

East Lansing Begins Search for Permanent City Manager

East Lansing has officially launched a national search for a permanent city manager. The city has issued a request for proposals, with bids due October 13.

Annette Irwin is currently serving as interim city manager. She took over the position after former City Manager Robert Belleman stepped down in June.

Lansing to Mail 23,000 Absentee Ballots

The Lansing City Clerk's Office is scheduled to begin mailing approximately 23,000 ballots Thursday to residents who are signed up for the city's permanent absentee ballot list.

Residents who are not already on the list can still request an absentee ballot. The ballots can be issued by mail through the Friday before the November election.

Downtown Lansing Road Closures Begin

Two road closures are beginning Thursday in downtown Lansing.

Ottawa Street between Grand Avenue and Washington Square is scheduled to close for emergency utility work through the end of Saturday.

The intersection of Pine and Kalamazoo streets is also closing for sewer construction. That closure is expected to remain in place through November 21.

Mackinac Bridge Crash Leads to $100,000 Bond

Bond has been set at $100,000 for a man charged in connection with a crash on the Mackinac Bridge that injured four people early Wednesday morning.

The man, a Jamaican national and seasonal worker, is facing a reckless driving charge. The crash resulted in the bridge being closed for several hours.

DTE Proposes Two New Natural Gas Plants

DTE Energy is proposing construction of two new natural gas power plants in Livingston and Monroe counties. Together, the facilities would have more than two gigawatts of generating capacity.

The utility also reaffirmed plans to retire its remaining coal-fired generation between 2028 and 2032.
