Human remains discovered near the Grand River in Lansing over the weekend are believed to be several years old, according to Lansing police.

Officers found the remains Saturday night in the 2400 block of Tecumseh River Road after responding to what police described as a suspicious situation. Authorities also pushed back on reports circulating online that a leg had been pulled from the river, saying those reports are inaccurate.

Police have not released additional information about the identity of the person whose remains were found.

Lansing to Remember Former Mayor Dave Hollister

The Lansing City Council is scheduled to pay tribute Monday night to former Mayor Dave Hollister, who died last week at the age of 84.

Hollister, who served as Lansing mayor, had been battling Parkinson's disease before his death. The tribute is planned at the beginning of Monday night's City Council meeting.

Clinton County Sheriff Sued Over Gun Storage Law

An ongoing dispute involving Clinton County Sheriff Sean Dush and Prosecutor Tony Spagnuolo has resulted in a lawsuit concerning Michigan's safe gun storage law.

According to documents cited in the newscast, Dush was accused of violating the law after a firearm was stolen from his vehicle and later recovered. The prosecutor's office authorized a memo advocating that Dush be charged under the law.

Dush was reportedly the only person in the area whose firearm was stolen from a vehicle who was charged under the safe-storage law.

Dush is seeking $1,000 in damages as well as another $1,000 for attorney fees.

Three Killed, Four Wounded in Detroit Shooting

Detroit police say three people were killed and four others wounded in a shooting early Sunday morning on the city's west side.

The shooting happened at an after-hours strip club on Press Street.

Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison said the location has been the subject of previous police investigations. He also condemned the violence, saying no one deserves to be killed or wounded by gunfire.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Michigan Attorney General Candidates Debate AI

Michigan attorney general nominees Doug Lloyd and Eli Savit faced off during a debate hosted by WDIV-TV, with artificial intelligence among the issues discussed.

Lloyd said the attorney general's office should work to protect young people from manipulative interactions involving technology. His comments come amid recent litigation involving concerns over safety features and technology companies.

Savit said he would go further by pursuing rules under the Michigan Consumer Protection Act during his first 100 days in office if elected. He said those rules would address alleged misuse of artificial intelligence involving surveillance pricing, deceptive marketing and the use of personal data to set prices.

The debate comes as artificial intelligence regulation continues to be a major policy issue in Michigan. Recent reporting from WDIV has also highlighted legislative efforts to address AI-related risks and consumer protections.

Michigan Gas Prices Fall From Last Week

Michigan drivers are seeing some relief at the pump.

AAA Michigan reports the statewide average price for regular gasoline at $4.67 per gallon, down 24 cents from a week ago.

The Lansing-area average is also $4.67 per gallon, representing a decrease of roughly a quarter from the previous week.

The price decline comes after gasoline prices had climbed to significantly higher levels earlier in September.
