East Lansing Halloween Night Brings Two Shootings, Pedestrian Crashes

Categories: Local News

East Lansing police are providing more details about four separate incidents that unfolded Halloween night and into the early morning hours, including two shootings that left five people with gunshot wounds and two separate pedestrian crashes.

Police Chief Jennifer Brown discussed the incidents during a news conference Sunday.

The first shooting occurred shortly after midnight near the intersection of M.A.C. Avenue and Linden Street. Three people were transported to a local hospital with gunshot wounds.

A second shooting happened during the early morning hours near Stoddard Street and Fry Avenue, where two additional gunshot victims were taken to a hospital. Police recovered multiple firearms from the scene and took several individuals into custody.

As of the latest update, four of the five shooting victims were listed in stable condition. Police had not provided an immediate update on the condition of the remaining victim.

The other two incidents involved separate pedestrian crashes. One occurred on Abbott Road near Library Lane, while the other happened at Grand River Avenue and Gunson Street. Both pedestrians were reported to be in stable condition, and the drivers involved were arrested for operating under the influence.

Haley Stevens Endorses Republican Mike Rogers in Michigan Senate Race

In a surprising political development ahead of Tuesday's election, Democratic Congresswoman Haley Stevens has announced her endorsement of Republican U.S. Senate nominee Mike Rogers.

The endorsement comes after Stevens lost the Democratic Senate primary last August to Abdul El-Sayed.

Stevens made the announcement Sunday while speaking with reporters in Detroit, describing her decision as a matter of leadership and integrity. She acknowledged that some constituents would agree with her decision while others would disagree.

El-Sayed, speaking after a Democratic unity event that Stevens was not invited to attend, said the endorsement would not change his focus.

He emphasized that his campaign is about serving Michigan's nearly 10 million residents rather than focusing on the congresswoman's decision.

The endorsement has also created tension within the Michigan Democratic Party. Party leaders condemned Stevens' decision, and most members of her congressional staff, including her chief of staff, resigned in protest.
